Statement on the Washington Blade Closing
Posted Nov 16th 2009
“Today’s announcement of the closing of the Washington Blade is a sad day not only for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender (GLBT) community in the District of Columbia but for people across the nation. For forty years the Blade has been the paper of record for the community. I was encouraged to read on the Blade webpage that the staff with Publisher Lynne Brown and Editor Kevin Naff, are looking to the future and I wish them only success. We need them and we need the newspaper no matter what its name is. At the end of the day it is not the paper’s name but the staff that is the heart and soul of the paper and the Blade staff are great!”

I am so sadden at the news of the Blades closing. I have had a long ongoing relationship both personal and professional with Ms. King at the Blade as she was once a Member of the Board of Directors for Transgender Health Empowerment, Inc.
Ms. King has been very instrumental in helping Transwomen who seek to have their names legally changed in DC. She has gone above and beyond to help make that very important move for these women, as easy as possible.
Her grace and charm has always been one of service for the GLBTQ Community whenever and wherever she could put her God given gifts to work. I will be praying for the paper to re-open soon, as many and not just Gays, turn to the Blade for informative information that affects all of the residents of the District.
They will Rise again like a Pheonix and come back Bigger and Better, I am sure of that.
