Clark Ray’s Statement on Today’s Marriages

As the the first same-sex marriages took place in the District of Columbia, Clark Ray stated,  “I congratulate those couples who have entered into committed civil marriages today and those who will do so in the future.  We are all fortunate to live in a progressive city — one in which individual rights are both respected and protected and all people are treated equally.”

Statement on the Final Passage of the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Equality Amendment Act of 2009

I salute the City Council for voting today to pass civil marriage equality in the District of Columbia.  I am thankful that I live in such a progressive city where my partner and I now have the opportunity to have our relationship recognized legally and equally under the law. While this was not always an easy discussion, we witnessed an outcome that respects the dignity of every person in our District of Columbia.  For that, I sincerely thank all of those who have worked so long and hard to make history today.

Clark E. Ray
